For those of you who can’t read past 2 sentences, let me sum it up right here: Umami burger should be worried.
People love rivalries. We would debate the shit out of everything you can think of. Columbus or Magellan. Hitler or Stalin. Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson. New Kids on the Block or N*SYNC. MAC or PC. Jordan or Kobe. I digress. Naturally, when Vegas native and new LA transplant, Fuku Burger sets up shop a block away from iconic Umami Burger on Cahuenga the inevitable comparison must be made.
The similarities between the two ends with the fact that their flavors are based on pseudo-Japanese inspiration. Fuku burger isn’t trying to duplicate Umami burgers’ flavors, that’s why essentially they should be able to co-exist. But you didn’t read to the 3rd paragraph for me to tell you that. The real question is which burger tastes better. With the slimmest of margins, I’m gonna say Umami burger.
Why did I say Umami burger should be worried? that’s because I can forgo the slim advantage it has in taste in exchange for a significantly bigger burger that costs $5 less. 8x out of 10 I would go to Fuku burger when the craving hits. Remember the time you realized that Pinkberry was ass raping you? yeah that only happened when other yogurt places made you realize it. I feel the same way now with Umami. $12 for that small burger, really?
